WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS –
March 6, 2025 – From neighbors helping neighbors to inspiring acts of kindness, we’re sharing stories of people making a difference in our ‘Champions of Hope’ series.
“I’ve seen some of the strongest people I know going through addiction,” said Rebecca Harris, who works as a substance abuse navigator at Mercy Folsom Hospital.
Her career as a drug and alcohol counselor is a calling and a lifeline for patients, like one woman named “Tracy” who preferred to not use her real name to protect her identity.
Tracy met Harris at the hospital after struggling with alcohol addiction for more than a decade.
“I just drank for so long in my life, drinking became part of who I was and I lost control of it,” Tracy said.
After several trips to the hospital, Tracy realized her body was failing. She was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and had to be hospitalized.
“Unfortunately, that’s not what took me down to getting sober. I had to do it two more times,” she said.
